Note that the cable from the battery through the ignition switch feeds the primary of the ignition coil. The primary circuit is completed to ground contact within the device known as a distributor assembly.
Note also the cam and the rotor which distributes the high voltage current to the various plugs are mounted on the shaft that connects to the motor.
